Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Support for Feral Cats in Spring Hill & Brooksville

SUPPORT TNR

Help Us Control Cat Overpopulation

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is one of the most effective and humane ways to reduce feral cat overpopulation. Whiskers Community Rescue helps local caregivers and communities access resources and funding for spay and neuter services to improve the health and safety of outdoor cat colonies throughout Spring Hill, Brooksville, and surrounding areas.

It involves humanely trapping cats, neutering or spaying them, vaccinating them, ear-tipping for identification, and returning them to their outdoor home to stop breeding, reduce colony sizes over time, and stop nuisance behaviors like fighting and spraying.

We started trapping, currently we have three kittens, and three adult cats. One of the kittens is currently at the emergency vet in Pinellas County, who has been absolutely phenomenal. She has two ulcerative wounds, almost holes in the back of her spine by her rectum that had live maggots crawling through there. They have removed almost 50 maggots thus far not including what was done last night and today. She’s doing well we will pick her back up this evening. She only appears to be maybe two weeks old at the most. The vet did say if we did not grab her up she definitely would not have made it.

Two of the other kittens are approximately four weeks old. They are part of a set of five, so we’re hoping to catch the other three today. We have three adults, two males and one female. The female is the mother to one of the males. There are 3 to 4 kittens from a different litter that we will get this evening as well. They all have been released from the traps in our volunteer's finished downstairs space (their living space is on the second floor.) We have two appointments set up for Friday for spay/neuter. And come Tuesday, I’m sure we can get others set up. This is a little different as we have space to house them freely until we get the appointments obviously sooner than later is best.

Our main focus is getting these kittens right now as they are running across the road back-and-forth and we do not want them to get hit. Will continue to update.
